If you’ve searched for “Pilates in Broadstone,” you’ve probably seen lots of options. That’s great — but it can also be confusing. How do you know which class is right for you?

In this blog, I’ll share a few simple things to think about. These tips will help you choose a Pilates class that fits your needs, goals, and experience.

What’s your main goal for attending Pilates Classes

This is the most important question to answer before choosing a Pilates class. Knowing what you want to achieve from Pilates will help you decide which type of class to attend.

Generally, people attend Pilates for three main goals:
– Managing Pain (Like Back Pain)
– Improving sporting performance
– Supporting general movement & fitness

Let’s take a closer look at each of these, and what to consider when making your decision.

Pilates in Broadstone for Back Pain (and other issues)

One common reason that people search for Pilates Classes is because they have been referred by their Physio or GP – often for conditions such as back pain. If this sounds familiar here are a few things to keep in mind:

Class Sizes: In this situation, smaller (no more than 8 people) classes work best. A small group allows your instructor to watch you closely and ensure exercises are done correctly. It also gives them the chance to modify movements to suit your body – helping avoid anything that worsens your pain. For this reason, I cap our classes at eight people. Any more and it becomes harder to offer this level of attention.

Instructor Qualifications: This is just as important. If you’re attending Pilates Classes for back pain, look for an instructor with more than just standard Pilates training. Ideally, they should have a clinical or rehab background. This helps them tailor the class to your needs. This helps them make safe and informed choices during the classes. For example, I hold qualifications in Biomechanics, Sports Massage and Movement Therapy to support this in my Pilates classes.

Equipment/Reformer Pilates vs. Mat Pilates: A common gap in Mat Pilates is the absence of optimal loading – the right amount of resistance for to build strength. While adding in equipment like Pilates bands can help, Equipment/Reformer Pilates takes thigs a lot further. Resistance from the adjustable springs help develop strength that is more aligned with sports-specific demands. This type of loading is harder to achieve in traditional mat-based classes.

Instructor Qualification: As mentioned earlier, qualifications are key. Standard Pilates courses don’t usually cover how to enhance sporting performance. For this, your instructor should have additional training in areas like Sports Therapy, Sports Performance, or Rehab. I hold a level 5 Diploma in Sports Therapy to help meet the needs of performance-based clients.

Pilates in Broadstone for General Fitness

If you don’t have specific goals, injuries or are on a budget – local gyms or health clubs can be a good option.

These facilities usually offer standard Pilates classes, often included in your monthly membership. This makes it a cost-effective way to try Pilates without paying for specialist instruction.

Another benefit is variety. Gyms often have different instructors, which gives you the best chance to try a few classes and see which teaching style you enjoy the most. While gym-based instructors may not have training in clinical issues or sports performance, their classes can still be a useful and enjoyable way to support general movement and fitness.
